A code that will not scan
Almost every scanning problem comes down to the reader, the size or the contrast rather than the code itself, so a report is easiest to act on when it says:
- Which generator you used — Wi-Fi, vCard, plain text, email, SMS, phone, logo or SVG — and what the scanner did: nothing at all, a wrong result, or an error.
- The phone and the app doing the scanning. A built-in camera app, a banking app and a dedicated scanner do not accept the same things; Wi-Fi codes in particular are read by the camera on some phones and by nothing at all on others.
- How the code was displayed and how big. A code printed under about 2 cm, shown on a dim screen, or placed on a patterned background fails in a way the file itself cannot explain.
Do not paste the contents of a private code — a Wi-Fi password, a personal number — into the message. Describing the type and the length is enough.
What happens to a report
The generator encodes to the same specification every scanner reads, so a fix is usually either in how a field is escaped before encoding or in the error-correction level for the logo overlay. Both are in the code and both get corrected there, then checked against a real phone rather than a screenshot. A change is not made on the strength of one report alone.
